Current Issues

Alcohol
Underage Drinking
Sadly, there are many current issues in the news regarding family crime. One type of family crime not directly discussed in my blog is underage drinking. This is a form of juvenile deliquesce, but in my opinion is separate. The US has the oldest drinking age, and according to the  CDC, "alcohol is the most used and abused drug among youth in the United States." Underage drinking makes up for over 4700 deaths in the US each year. The alcohol youth drink is about 90% binge drinking. The CDC continues to tell that "in 2010, there were approximately 189,000 emergency room visits by persons under age 21 for injuries and other conditions linked to alcohol." The US struggles with underage drinking so much that there are rarely news article published about it. When looking all I found was articles about laws being changed to try to prevent it. I honestly think it has to do with the media and the fact our country has the highest drinking age.

Child Abuse
In my blog I did talk about Child Abuse, but I wanted to put this story separate because it is so heart breaking. This is only one story of thousands. This story is about a young boy named Quinten who was born with Ring 9 Chromosome. This page was written by their sister who took care of them for a period of time. After she could no longer care for them the boys began being abused by their father. He neglected to care for them which resulted in Cameron, his brother, to care for Quinten. After awhile, Quinten ended up dying from medical causes because his father neglected to take him to the hospital. Evan Anderson from Oklahoma's Own covers the story. As of the beginning of December DHS still has yet to respond to this case. Unfortunately, there are too many stories about child abuse. Quinten's story is one of many, and there is so much work to be done in the world to protect these children.
